About Catherine Brown¶

I became a dietitian because I love nutrition and believe it has an amazing ability to help people feel their best.
After becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I worked in hospital and nursing home settings providing medical nutrition therapy for several years, gaining experience working with patients living with mental illness and prior psychiatric hospitalizations.
Since completing my training I have also become a patient myself, diagnosed with several disabilities. I have found that the healthcare system is not always understanding or inclusive of those struggles. Weight loss is pushed hard — even when it won't fix the underlying symptoms or conditions — and a person can be left feeling unheard, with no resolution to their concerns. Focusing on weight loss can also lead to poor self-esteem and disordered eating, which only creates more problems.
I want to help people find a relationship with food that nourishes and heals their bodies, but is also kind and supports mental wellbeing. You shouldn't feel guilty about eating. Changing your diet is hard, and food is so much more than fuel — it's emotional, social, and cultural. My goal is to help you find wellness and symptom management through food, in a way that is compassionate to yourself. I focus on quality of life and health rather than reaching a specific goal weight.
